Central church in Sevastopol

The city of Sevastopol is located in Crimea. During its 227year history it often justified its name, meaning “great, worthy of worship”. More than 2500 years ago ancient Greeks had here their settlement Khersones, where according to the tradition, apostle Andrew planted a Christian church in 1 st century AD.

First Adventists came to Sevastopol in 1907. These missionaries got together after work at the city square, the favorite with the locals, and began to sing psalms. Some people would stop by, listen to lyrics of the hymns, that brought the truth, and joined the Christians. This is how the church got started.

Today Sevastopol has four churches, 600 members and 400.000 population, but not a single operating sanctuary. Thus the Central church has problems: in their rented hall they are not allowed to hold religious events with new guests, rental time is limited to only two hours which doesn’t allow for a good service. The roof leaks and there’s no heating. Teens and children have no SS room.
By God’s grace we began building the Spiritual center in Sevastopol thanks to support of church members and dedicated donors.
On the 2nd floor we’ll have a 400 seat sanctuary and a balcony. In the basement- a library, a small chapel, cafeteria and garage. On the 1 st floor- a 200 seat chapel, SS rooms, and a pastor’s apartment.

One third of the work is over by now but due to lack of funds we have to stop the building. We need another 500.000$ to finish, the kindof money that the members do not have yet. This money could help for the city churches dream to come true. They can have their own church so that the salvation message can successfully reach the people of Sevastopol.

We need your prayer and financial support. We wish you God’s richest blessings.

Project coordinator, pastor Alex Kripakov.
