Odessa is the largest port on the Black Sea coast of Ukraine and is an administrative, industrial, cultural, scientific and resort center, the knot of rail and car roads. It is the fourth largest city in Ukraine with over one million people.
The SDA church celebrated its 100 anniversary in 2008 in Odessa. It has eight congregations of total 1029 members. Only three churches have their own buildings, five rent.
Two out of three buildings we own were erected in 1940 under communism on the city outskirts, not to draw authority’s unnecessary attention. They seat 220 and 120 and were planned like living quarters, not churches and therefore are out of date, do not have parking lots and need complete overhaul.
Three churches are located in residential high rises area and do not own their buildings but have to rent which leads to high rental, absence of midweek meetings, dependence of hall event schedule, etc.
In spring 2010 the church of Odessa bought a piece of land with a little house on it for 136.000$. Here we plan to build a sanctuary for 500-600 seats and two apartments for pastors. We need $800.000 to finish this building.
Thank you for your help.
